Church ‘overwhelmed’ by tributes to Charlotte today

More than 100 mourners paid their respects to Charlotte Blackman at St Susanna’s Church in Horsley Woodhouse today.

The 22-year-old from Mansfield Road, Heanor, who was hoping to start a career as a teacher, was killed in a landslide while on holiday in Burton Bradstock, Dorset, last week.

A total of 117 people visited the Main Street church today, leaving touching tributes on a special ‘memory tree’ at the church.

It is hoped the testimonies can be bound together to make a book, which can then be given to the Blackman family.

Rev Greg Price of the Denby Group of Churches, said: “People wanted to come and celebrate her life and support the family. It has been overwhelming - people are saying she always had a flower in her hair, she was full of laughter and full of love.”

One of the boys who attended Horsley Woodhouse Primary School, where Charlotte volunteered for six weeks, had brought with him a toy donkey to place in tribute. He left the message: “We love and miss you - you were fantastic.”
