Ripley Town Council is exploring ideas for a new community venue in the town.
The council is to look at the possibility of leasing or purchasing the Moseley Street church hall, currently owned by All Saints Church, on Church Street.
On July 16, the authority voted in favour of procuring a building survey to determine the condition of the hall through the Derbyshire County Council’s surveying service.
Leader of Ripley Town Council Cllr Steve Freeborn said: “This could be a great venue for Ripley. It’s somewhere that people could stage plays, hold parties, have tea dances, and even show films.
Ripley is missing a venue of this size. It could even serve as a live music venue, particularly for Ripley Music Festival.”
The survey is expected to be completed during August and the council is to consider its next steps in September. Check www.facebook.com/ripleyreckoning for further developments, or for more information contact town clerk Linda McCormick on 01773 832211.
