Celebration of mining heritage
Crowds of people turned out for a service to celebrate Alfreton's mining heritage.
The parish church of St Martin’s held the service, and pivotal to it was the dedication of a Miner’s lamp, donated to the church by Ron Padley, a former miner. In his address Canon Frank Mercurio referred to the necessity for light in the hazardous conditions of a mine and likened it to our lives.
