Leabrooks butcher Owen Taylor & Sons,is celebrating sucess in the 2014 Meat Management Industry Awards.
The awards are an established benchmark for recognising excellence throughout the meat industry.
The Main Road business was a finalist in Britain’s Best Butcher’s Shop awards category, also getting through to England’s Best Burger final, with their ‘Champion Lamb Burger’.
For good measure, Owen Taylor & Sons also picked up England’s Best Burger Award Food Service Category.
The judges involved in the awards said: “Paul Swain has been heading up Owen Taylor’s retail shop since early 2013. He has brought his own flair of creative display, flavours and product ideas, with one of the greatest larders in the business behind him.”
The firm’s managing director Richard Taylor said: “Owen Taylor & Sons is a catering industry leader, continually embracing change. While being progressive, the business still ensures it focuses on the source products, ensuring that livestock is of the consistency and conformity to help deliver a quality final product as demanded by discerning chefs.”
The business is a member of the national Butchers Q Guild, which represents 110 butchers from the Scottish Highlands to the south coast.
It is considered to be at the elite end of the UK’s retail butchery sector.
The Q Guild was itself a finalist in the Best Trade Organisation of the Year for the second year running. Awards were presented by football legend Sir Geoff Hurst at a ceremony in London’s Grand Connaught Rooms.
Q Guild general manager Sandy Boyd said: “The Meat Management Industry Awards reflect great credit on Q Butchers like Owen Taylor & Sons, who have yet again demonstrated their talents for innovation and quality.”
