Lorry Crash: The A6 was closed northwards after this articulated lorry crashed under the bridge in Ambergate.

A lorry became trapped under a railway bridge in Ambergate yesterday after it collided with a central pillar.

The juggernaut was travelling through the village on the A6 road shortly before 2pm when it collided with the structure.

The male driver was not trapped - but had to be taken to Royal Derby Hospital by ambulance with minor injuries.

Fire crews from Belper and The Nottingham Road major rescue unit attended the scene, using hydraulic cutting equipment to remove the vehicle safely from the bridge.

A small amount of diesel had also been spilled, which fire services worked to clear.

Inspectors from Network Rail also attended the scene to make sure the bridge was safe. Police were present to control traffic, with the road closed until 4.30pm.
