A planning application for the first phase of work at the Kimberley brewery site has been submitted to Broxtowe Borough Council.

If it goes ahead plans for The Field site off Hardy Close will include 22 houses, road improvements and landscaping.

The site will include ten cottages suitable for first time buyers and 12 detached homes, suitable for local families. The properties are anticipated to start selling at £150,000.

The planning application includes financial contribution to the area including funding for public open spaces, transport infrastructure and local schools.

Financial contributions, also known as section 106 agreements, are made by developers to give something back to the local area.

A public consultation exhibition was held on August 7 in Kimberley where the overall master plan was unveiled. It included 164 homes, more than 100 jobs in a range of retail units and the retention of most of the key historical features.

Consultation forms have all now been returned and show that 74 per cent of people are in favour of the overall plans.

Brewery site planner Alistair Russell said: “We would like to thank everyone for their feedback. We are very pleased with the response.

“All comments submitted will be taken into consideration in the ongoing development to deliver the best possible outcome.”

Metis Developments, working on behalf of site owners Amfaah Investments, hope work will begin in March 2013.

The next stage is to submit an outline application before the end of the year, which will comprise the ‘Warehouse Yard’, ‘Eastwood Road’ and ‘The Brewery’ itself.

The final site, ‘Nine Corners’ is currently proposed for apartments and an application will be made subsequent to planning approval on the other sites.

However, the area dubbed ‘Brewery Street’ is set to remain untouched for the forseeable future as the current landlords wish to seek new tenants without fresh development at the present time.
