BREAKING- Borough council orders reshuffle

Amber Valley Borough Council is to undergo a cabinet reshuffle in light of a forthcoming announcement on housing growth.

The Tory-led cabinet is being re-organised in the run up to the announcement of the Strategic Housing Land Availability Assesment at the end of the month, which will designate where house builds will be concentrated over the next two decades in the borough.

Among the changes deputy leader Cllr Liz Bowley will take on a new portfolio entitled ‘developing places to live and work’, replacing her current responsibilities for ‘regeneration’

Leader of the council Stuart Bradford, who will continue to oversee the financial and corporate issues said: “With major challenges ahead for Amber Valley we’re certainly not holding back on our plans to re-shuffle.

The Government’s announcement about changes to planning legislation alongside the future locations for housing growth, challenges faced by our town centres, and the new role of the Police and Crime Commissioner for Derbyshire prompted a more acute need to renew responsibilities at a time when focus in these areas is particularly pertinent.”

Cllr Bowley is to take on a new focus on “major developments”, the authority says, “in light of forthcoming announcements about locations for future housing growth and regeneration.”

Swanwick Councillor Stephen Hayes takes on responsibility for health and leisure, while Duffield Councillor Chris Short takes on a new role for community safety, and will become a Police and Crime Panel member supporting the work of the new Police and Crime Commissioner for Derbyshire, to be elected in November.

Councillor for Kilburn, Denby and Holbrook, Normal Bull will maintain responsibility for affordable housing and homelessness, and Belper East Councillor Martin Tomlinson will stand down as Chairman of the Improvement and Scrutiny Committee to become the new cabinet member who will take charge of areas such as parks and open spaces, highway cleaning and car parking.
