Boost for cycle routes plan

A bid to create more cycle routes around Belper is closer to reality, according to the town’s MP.

Belper MP Pauline Latham asked whether the Department for Culture, Media and Sport would support the idea during a meeting at Westminster and was told the Government “would continue to support efforts to promote cycling in the area.”

Mr Latham is pushing for dedicated cycle routes in the Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage site which would allow people to commute from Milford, Belper, Duffield, Little Eaton, Darley Abbey and Allestree to Derby city centre.

Mrs Latham, MP for Mid-Derbyshire said: “Opening it up with better cycle routes will not only add to the enjoyment of local residents, but also promote tourism in the area.”
