A long running bus company has had its licence revoked by the Traffic Commisioner because of poor standards, it has been revealed.

The Lavender Line coach firm based at Hassock Lane North, on the edge of Shipley, ceased to operate as of midnight on Friday following a public inquiry held in Warrington.

North West Traffic Commissioner Beverley Bell, whose responsibility is to ensure coach and haulage firms comply with regulations, made the decision to revoke the licence because of poor “vehicle safety and driver standards.”

Yesterday, Friday, alternative travel arrangements had to be made at a number of schools in Derbyshire, including Heanor Gate Science College, as Lavender Line was responsibly for several morning school runs.

A spokesperson for education authority Derbyshire County Council said: “We received a call at 4.15pm last night (7 Feb) to tell us that Lavender Tours’ licence had been revoked.

“We arranged for Ilkeston company Littles to take over the routes affected - to St John Houghton and Kirk Hallam schools in Ilkeston and Heanor Gate in Heanor - from today (8 Feb) so the services will continue to operate as normal.”

The operator licence was held by Ruth Lavender, but in a separate direction, Mrs Bell also disqualified the operator’s husband – transport manager John Lavender – from the industry for three years. The order means that Mr Lavender can not act as a transport manager for any bus or coach operator in the UK and Europe.
