A POSSE of children and parents took to the parks of Ironville to clear the village of litter on Friday.
Children on the school council of Ironville and Codnor Park School wanted to hold an event in the community where people in the area could gather for a litter pick of the village after they had been inspired by a class geography project.
The school’s community cohesion group, set up to establish better links within the community, took on board the pupils’ advice, and invited the whole village to take part.
School children joined villagers, Clown’s Day Nursery, representatives from Amber Valley Housing and from Amber Valley Borough Council on the day.
Joint headteacher of Ironville and Codnor Park School Lisa Bowley said eight large recycling bags and several more bags full of non-recyclable waste were filled.
She added: “Part of the curriculum is for the children to be aware of their environment and this gave them lots of opportunities for them to see parts of the community they had not before, learning about the effects of litter. It was really good to do it all together.”
