A HERITAGE exhibition in Sawmills, staged as part of the World Heritage Site Discovery Days, was opened by a pillar of the community.

The exhibition was held on October 29 and 30 at Sawmills Village Hall and was staged by the Bullbridge and Sawmills Area Civic Society (BASA).

Stan Byard, 95, who has lived in Sawmills all his life, was able to provide a commentary on the old photographs, maps and memorabilia in the exhibition. BASA secretary Gill Hirst said: “He knew something about them all! His stories and anecdotes left those accompanying him spellbound. These stories were captured on Dictaphone.”
