An award winning wedding planner is taking on a new catering challenge – by reopening the food kiosk at Heanor Memorial Park.
In February Amber Valley Borough Council launched an appeal to find a budding retail entrepreneurs to take over the premises by the paddling pool and children’s play area.
And 26-year-old Kieran Hill, with the help of his partner Emily Clarke, 21, has answered the call.
The newly titled Cabin in the Park had a successful first day of trading on Saturday.
Kieran said: “We are going to be doing jacket potatoes, hot cobs, ice creams, breakfasts toasties, hot drinks and cold drinks and all at an affordable price. We have got the council offices just round the corner, the leisure centre staff and the doctors all nearby - we are opening nice and early for them grab a bite before work - and there will be special offers for breakfast and lunch.”
The new food outlet marks a slight sidestep for Kieran, whose other firm Perfect Day Wedding and Events has won him a ‘best wedding consultant in the UK’ gong at the 2012 and 2013 Wedding Industry Expert Awards.
But he is hoping his skills as an events manager will bring something new to the venue. Kieran organised the successful Victorian Christmas Market at Heanor Town Hall in December and is hoping to plan a food festival at there through his role as chair of the its newly formed friends group.
“It’s very important for the park and the community that the kiosk is open,” he added. “There are a lot of families that can’t afford to take their kids away on days out all the time. But they can come here and play with the children in this park. That’s why it’s so important we keep prices down.”
The Cabin in the Park is set to be open from 7am until 7pm six days a week, excluding Wednesday. Check it out on Facebook at www.facebook.com/cabininthepark.
