A Ripley woman - who was airlifted to hospital following a horse riding accident - has backed the News’ fundraising campaign to support the Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland Air Ambulance.

This week we launch a major push to help make vital money for the services, which receives no financial support from the government.

Liz Wardman, of Dannah Street, Ripley, knows just how vital the service can be.

On February 3, she was out riding her horse Frayah with two other friends through Sleetmoor Woods in Somercotes, when she got into trouble.

Fraya accidentally went into the back of another horse and jumped to one side - unseating experienced rider Liz, 49.

The large mare was spooked and began cantering in to the trees dragging Liz along behind her.
