THE FUNERAL of tragically killed Thorntons worker Jia Ashton is due to take place tomorrow.
The 25-year-old, from Springfield Avenue, Somercotes, died as she walked home along a path known locally as the ‘Yellow Brick Road’ on March 10.
Her body was found three days later in Sleetmoor Woods covered only by leaves and brushwood.
Police later confirmed that she had been the victim of an assault.
The funeral service was to take place tomorrow at St Thomas’ Church, Nottingham Road, Somercotes, at noon.
Close friends and family members will then attend a private cremation at Markeaton Crematorium, in Derby.
David Simmonds, 21, was charged with her murder and last appeared before Southern Derbyshire Magistrates’ Court on May 23.
He is currently remanded in custody until a court date can be set for trial.
