A HEANOR teenager who has battled injury to qualify for a sporting championship raised £1,200 in a sponsored swim on Sunday.

Jack Mason, 14, swam five-and-a-half kilometres for Bowel Cancer UK and the Royal Derby Hospital, where his grandmother was successfully treated for the condition.

A hockey accident 18 months ago left the keen swimmer with his left hip out of line. But Jack has delayed having an operation on his femur so he can compete with his team at the National Speed Championships in March.
