Derbyshire residents have been shocked and excited by the bizarre news that Robin Hood star and Oscar-winning actor Kevin Costner may be thinking of moving here.

The strange report emerged online claiming the star of the Body Guard, Waterworld, and Dances with Wolves had allegedly revealed in an interview that he was set to leave the Hollywood Hills behind and move to the hilly home of the Peak District.

And the story, on American website Daily News 11 prompted excited comments from Derbyshire residents, standing up for their area as a beautiful place to live.

He reportedly told a US magazine: "I’m just tired of the LA lifestyle and I feel like, at this point in my life, I’d rather just live in a place full of real, genuine people.

"I’ve been to Derby a couple of times over the years and the people there are real… they’re genuine, and yeah every community has its problems but the people there are good, decent people and they care about their community. Those are the things I find most important in deciding where to live."

He added: “I’m not retiring, I’m just looking for a change in life and I think I’ve found that in Derby."

Paul Tattershaw, a Maintenance Engineer from Derby said: "I'll do a house swap with him, my two-bed terrace in Alvaston for his pad in LA. Bin day is Friday, the Nisa shop on the corner does a good offer on Blossom Hill, so he'll still have that taste of California. The buses into town are very regular, buy a ZigZag ticket and the world's your oyster."

Adelle Overton said: "I expect that he'll be moving to the Derbyshire Dales. An absolutely beautiful part of the country, can't blame him one bit."

Jo Harrison posted online: "I said to my husband years ago the only person I would have an affair with is Kevin Costner. Now he's worried."

The report is not confirmed and there is no sign of which magazine the interview was with, and the report is believed to be connected to a network of fake news sites releasing false celebrity news to fool readers.

We are awaiting a response from Mr Costner's management.
