DESPITE the rain hundreds of runners took part in the first ever Awsworth 5K fun run for charity.
The event was organised by Ian Baxter, a teacher at Awsworth Primary School, as a fun activity aimed at involving the whole community and raising cash for charity.
The chosen charity is one close to the school’s heart was Muscular Dystrophy as there are two pupils there, who suffer from a form of the disease known as Duchenne.
Headteacher Jane Mainprize said runners young and old took part in the 5km run around the village on Sunday April 29.
She said: “Over 200 people took part in the fun run, despite the atrocious weather conditions, taking on board the simple message: ‘Don’t just spectate, participate.”
The winner was Nicj Watson in the men’s competition.
Anya King was the women’s winner.
The first places in the uncer-16s category went to Isaac Rea for the boys and Jessica Babcock for the girls.
Jane added: “We have had nothing but praise for a what was a great event with thanks going to all who helped on the day.”
She said plans were already in hand for next year’s run.
