NRHNLM110906B2 - Friendly ear: Dave Hardwick, of Bradshaw Avenue, Riddings, has set up a helpline for elderly people in need of friendship and advice.

A BENEFITS campaigner has launched a helpline to support senior citizens nationwide.

Friendship Line UK began on Saturday, October 22, offering vital support and friendship to the elderly. It is the work of Dave Hardwick, 66, of Bradshaw Avenue, Riddings, who started the scheme to try and help other people in similar situations to his. His disability benefits were cut by the Government in September. He said: “I have suffered that lack of friendship and isolation myself, and believe me it isn’t good.”

Friendship Line UK, which can be reached on 01773 605055, is appealing for volunteers to staff phones and help raise funds. If you are interested contact Mr Hardwick on 07979 283969.
