THE main road between Heanor and Langley Mill was closed today after the gale-force winds uprooted a large tree.

Mansfield Road, near Marshall Road, was closed after the tree came crashing down in Wednesday night’s strong winds.

Workmen were chopping up and removing the tree this morning. It had been in the garden of a nearby house and fell, blocking the entire road close to Hands Road.

Motorists heading to work were being diverted via Hands Road.

The region was lashed by gale-force winds with many roads hit by fallen trees.

Weather experts were predicting the strong winds would ease later today.
