TRAFFIC DELAYS were caused in Heanor this morning while fire crews dealt with a chimney fire.
The occupier of a home on Derby Road, close to the junction of Kirkley Drive, in the town dialled 999 when the building became smoke logged.
Two fire engines based at Nottingham Road, Derby, and a crew from Heanor spent more than three hours at the scene ventilating the semi-detached house and cutting an area away from the chimney to tackle a small fire inside it.
Derby Road was down to one lane from 8am until around 11.30am while the 12 fire crew members tackled the fire.
No one was harmed in the incident.
Temporary crew manager Richard Hollis of the Heanor crew said smoke alarms were fitted to neighbouring properties.
He said homeowners should make sure chimneys are swept once every six months to avoid fires.
