Heanor campus closes ahead of a major refurbishment

DERBY College’s Heanor campus in Mundy Street will be temporarily closed this summer whilst major refurbishment plans are finalised.

The campus, which includes the Grade II listed building which was the former Heanor Grammar School, is currently used by art and design, games development, IT and business students who will be relocated to other college sites including Field Road, in Ilkeston, and the Roundhouse and Joseph Wright Centre, in Derby.

Some buildings may be sold to raise funds for the refurbishment, but no details or costs have yet been agreed.

Principal David Croll said: “Timescales for redevelopment are dependent upon so many different factors that we did not want to suddenly disrupt students and staff in the middle of an academic year and have decided to temporarily shut the site and settle the curriculum areas currently there into new homes elsewhere whilst the plans progress and then ultimately the work commences.”
