FEWER Erewash kids are obese, according to new NHS figures.
Heights and weights of all primary schoolchildren taken in reception and again in their final year have shown a drop of 0.8 per cent since last year.
But the figure – now at 19.2 per cent – is still above the national average.
Four- to five-year-olds are also less obese – figures show a drop from 9.5 per cent last year to 8.8 per cent for 2010-11.
Jane Hicken, children’s obesity coordinator for NHS Derbyshire, said: “It’s very encouraging to see that there’s been a downward trend in obesity in these two age groups, particularly in four to five-year-olds.
“If this trend continues we will start to realise the benefits as these children get older.”
