A CARE home in Selston have reached the finals of a health awards event.

Wren Care Home in the village, has received a cheque for £500 after reaching the finals of the Pinder’s Healthcare Design Awards 2012.

In the summer last year, the Nottingham Road home had an extension built to create a specialist area for people with different stages of dementia.

It is this unit at the family-run home, which opened in 1989, that has been recognised by the awards.

Staff at the venue are now looking forward to the finals on March 22 in London. The money will be donated to the Alzheimer’s Society, said a spokesman for the home.

Care home manager Anita Astle received the cheque for the amount on behalf of the home.
