A young film buff from Heage had a dream come true when she landed the chance to interview movie funnyman Steve Carell.

Nine-year-old budding reporter Gabriella Wilson got the chance to grill the stars of Despicable Me 2 as part of a charity talent program.

The Heage Primary School pupil was whisked off to London to attend the press junket for the new animation film, where she met the voices of characters Gru - Steve Carell, and Margo - Miranda Cosgrove.

The youngster also attended a special preview screening of the film to help her to prepare her questions.

Afterwards she said: “I didn’t know what to expect before going into the interviews but I wasn’t nervous though - it was really good fun!

“I think today was one of the best experiences I will ever experience in my life!”

The young reporter charmed the pair by asking them a few cheeky questions, including what was the most despicable thing they’ve ever done and what they would do if they had thousands of minions at their command.

And the youngster even got a voice lesson from Steve Carell when he helped her to perfect her best villain accent, like his character in the film.

Gabriella was invited to attend the press event in London by the charity FILM CLUB, which enables young people access to report at exclusive film industry events. Heage Primary School won the 2013 FILM CLUB club of the year, with 70 pupils at the village primary taking part in reviewing, discussing and making films there each week. Head teacher James Yellop said: “Our film club is getting a lot of success and is leading to all sort of new ventures. It is perhaps even opening up lots of career opportunities.”

Class teacher Jenni Philbin, who runs the Heage club, said pupils’ previous interviewees include Danny Devito and Jack Schneider.
