MORE than 150 members of voluntary and community groups have got together to celebrate the work of charities.
The Celebrating Success event highlighted the good work being done by charities and voluntary groups as well as launching Derbyshire County Council’s new Community Action Grant.
The grant is an opportunity for voluntary groups to share in £250,000 designed to help them build strong, vibrant communities.
The grants are open to groups across Derbyshire with a maximum of £1,000 awarded for each successful application.
At a launch event at county hall in Tuesday, groups from across Derbyshire had the chance to learn more about the new grants as well as find out about other funding and support available to them.
Cllr Carol Hart, Cabinet member for Public Health said: “There was a great turn out to the celebrating success event.
“We know there are so many small groups out there doing good work that may need a helping hand.
“That’s why we have set up the Community Action Grant. It offers up to £1,000 to go towards specific, sustainable projects helping out local communities.”
Charities, community and voluntary groups, sports clubs and social enterprises can all apply for a grant.
The grants can be used for things such as buying and hiring equipment, hiring a venue, travel (such as getting people to an event), training fees, materials for a project and publicity costs for a project.
Groups can apply any time until December 14 2012.
