a SURPRISE golden wedding anniversary party saw £404 raised for the Help for Heroes charity.

Kath and Gordon Lambourn’s celebration, at Heanor Miners’ Welfare on February 18, was turned into a charity event with a raffle that raised £200.

Kath and Gordon celebrate their official 50th anniversary on March 10. The charity was picked because Gordon is a former Royal Marine commando.

More than 70 friends and family-members turned up for the party and took part in the raffle, in which the top prize was a £200 gold pen donated by Cito.

Other prizes were donated by local businesses.

Son-in-law Neil Grant raised £200 with a collection at DS Smith Packaging in Belper.
