A SUMMER school for exceptional students saw talented youngsters enjoy a week of creative activities in Denby.
John Flamsteed Community School on Derby Road, held its sixth week-long programme of events aimed at extending the opportunities for the area’s more able students. This year the activities were centred around an art theme to tie in with the school opening a new purpose-built drama and music facility in September. A total of 20 youngsters from a number of local primary and junior schools took part in workshops creating urban art, using graffiti styles such as spray paint. Talented pupils also tried their hand at drama, an African drum making workshop and arts and crafts. Head teacher Denise Maycock said: “The students really enjoy the chance to work with others with the same interests and aspirations.
