Further tales amid the gales in Ripley and Heanor

More wind damage has been reported around the Ripley and Heanor area this morning as strong gusts ripped through the towns.

The gales nearly brought down a 30ft tree at Codnor Gate as it was leaning dangerously.

Derbyshire County Council attended to fell the tree before it collapsed into the road.

A set of Ripley’s Christmas lights were brought down by the bad weather.

Police reported how a good samaritan driver stopped to warn others that the lights on Church Street in the town had fallen and were dangling dangerously in the road.

Nobody was hurt in the incident.

Diversions are still in place after a large tree fell across Mansfield Road in Heanor.

Cars travelling between Heanor and Langley Mill are currently being redirected via Hands Road in the town.

And in the early hours of this morning police reported how another large tree was brought down on Kirkby Lane in Pinxton by the weather. A lamppost was also damaged in the process.
