A group of generous whist players turned card games into cash to raise £2,000 this year for the breast care unit of Royal Derby Hospital.
Jenny Fearnley has hosted whist drives at her Chadwick Grove, Ripley, house since 2004 for the unit. The mum-of-two and owner of Jenny’s Underwear on Church Street in the town has raised £13,000 for the cause since then through monthly card contests and raffles which, attract up to 30 players.
She said: “A lot of my customers used to come in and say they had been to the breast unit, it was just my way of giving something back.”
Next year Jenny, 64, pictured on the right here handing a cheque to Marlene Gale of Royal Derby Hospital, plans to raise money for the Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland Air Ambulance.
