A free legal advice clinic is now open to the public at a Heanor charity organisation.
The surgery at the Salcare centre on Ray Street will run from 9.30am to 1pm on Wednesdays and sees Sharon Cobham and Carl Maw, solicitors from Robert Barber at Eastwood, deal ing with legal queries from the public. They also assess whether people would be eligible for Legal Aid.
Sharon said: “The sessions are designed to offer free legal advice on issues such as Family, Children, Employment and any other legal issues.”
Salcare manager Sue Clarke said: “Legal aid has been cut back drastically and it’s leaving people high and dry. They won’t know where they can turn to.
“This service will help them find out what their options are and get them referred on to get suitable help.
“We are trying to step in and help. It is part of this idea that Salcare should be a one-stop shop for people with problems. Hopefully a lot of issues can be resolved by people working together.”
Salcare already runs free housing and debt advice sessions on Tuesdays from noon to 2pm and a benefits advice surgery on Fridays from 8.30am to 12.30pm.
The debt advice sessions can offer help on things like mortgage arrears, doorstep lenders and loans advice.
Appointments for a job service on Thursdays can be booked by calling 01773 764562.
