Fourth time at top for Alfreton’s John

Alfreton has a new Mayor in the form of town councillor John Walker.

This will be the fourth time cllr Walker, 71, has held the position, after holding the chains of office in 92/93, 96/97 and 03/04.

He said: “One of my main aims is to get Alfreton station refubished. We still haven’t got disabled facilities - we have been promised it will get a revamp.”

Cllr Walker has lived in Alfreton for the past 40 years. His first engagement was at Lees school on Wednesday where he will open a new room for the visually impaired.

His charity for the municipal year is Diabetes UK. The deputy mayor is cllr Marlene Bennett MBE.
