RE: (Ripley & Heanor News, page 10, Thursday, March 26) “Top Tapping Youngsters.”
My daughter Dawn Ratcliffe is in this picture – second row back, fourth from the left on your picture.
According to my records it was April 1991, at the church hall on Moseley Street, Ripley. This is where dances were held for the award ceremonies.
The actual dancing classes were at the church hall on Derby Road, Henaor, opposite the Jolly Colliers. Jean Tomlinson was the dance teacher. She is to the right of the gentleman in the centre of the picture, and her daughter, Sue, back to the left of the gentleman was also a teacher.
Unfortunately, in August 2005, Jean passed away, and since then the dance class has closed down.
It was a lot of fun, even us mothers learned how to tap dance and had a few appearances on stage.
Here is a photo for you to look at from 1997 - we are in orange (above). I am on the left of the picture, then there is Christine Baynes, Sue Baker and Jean (not the dance teacher).
I also enclose a photo of Dawn receiving her rainbow award (top) which was comprised of a different colour for each different dance, joining them all together until complete (Dawn is on the right).
There are also two other girls receiving their awards, but unfortunately, I cannot remember their names or the name of the lady presenting the awards. This one was taken at the same event as the one in your paper.
