A kind-hearted pensioner who asked her friends to donate money to charity instead of buying presents for her 90th birthday has been thanked at a party in Heanor.

90-year-old Florence Sanders, from Loscoe, handed over a cheque for £300 to staff at the Headway charity shop in Heanor after she decided to turn this year’s birthday
celebrations into a way of supporting the charity’s efforts.

Manager Diane Hatton said: “The generosity behind this particular donation is absolutely amazing.

“Flo is a very special lady and we are all so grateful for her kind and selfless decision to use her birthday as an
opportunity to support others.”
