Flaming Skirt Festival route revealed

Plans for an alternative festival to the Olympic torch ceremony across Amber Valley are taking shape this week.

Sally Lemsford, of Forge Row, Codnor Park, is organising the Flaming Skirt Festival on Saturday, June 30, because the official 2012 Games torch is not set to pass through towns in the Ripley and Heanor area.

Described as a ‘fun protest’, the festival is set to start with recited poetry at 10.30am at Shipley country Park, before moving on to drumming at Ironville, a lunch-stop at Midland Railway Centre, games at Ripley Greenway and then storytelling, artwork, mini-skirt sports and dancing at Lower Hartshay.

For more information about the event and an interview with Sally - grab a copy of next week’s Ripley and Heanor News.
