First round of sport wins

sporting clubs in Amber Valley have netted more than £7,000 in funding from Derbyshire County Council.

Receiving individual awards of £1,000 each, Marehay Cricket Club will buy a bowling machine, South Normanton Bowls Club will install wooden shelters, Amber Valley District Cricket Association will develop the skills of young leaders and South Wingfield Cricket Club will buy a mobile net and pay for repairs to an artificial match wicket.

Amber Valley Gymnastics will pay for a month of gymnastic sessions and Amber Valley Rugby Union Football Club will buy new equipment.

Heanor Juniors Football Club get £397 to pay for outreach groups and new kit and Amber Valley Hornets Ladies Hockey Club receive £865 to create a second team.

The county council’s £180,000 Sports Action Grant scheme was launched in October and 83 applications totalling £67,530 have this week been approved in the first round of hand-outs.
