CODNOR’S 18th fireworks display lit up the skies for miles around on Friday night.

At 7.20pm the rain stopped so the bonfire could be lit by Amber Valley MP Nigel Mills.

There was a slight delay caused by damp in the electronic switches but the spectacular display, provided by Spyrotechnics, impressed the crowds.

Leader of the parish council, Cllr Chris Emmas-Williams, said: “It was absolutely fantastic! People were saying it was the best one ever. The bonfire went up and that was a relief!

The popular free event took place on the Alfreton Road recreation ground and traffic was re-routed from 12pm so fair rides could be set up by showman Bert Holland.

Codnor Parish Council was the main sponsor, while the Codnor Scouts laid on barbecue food and the Rotary Club served up hot peas. Drinks were provided by the Poet and Castle and hot drinks were available at the Methodist Church on Mill Lane.
