Firework blamed for Heanor teen’s car smash

An exploding firework allegedly caused a driver to career in to three parked cars, a lamppost and a garden wall in Heanor.

The 19-year-old motorist from Heanor received minor head injuries after the collision on Greenacre Avenue at around 11.30am on Tuesday, February 11.

Police say the teenager, driving a Fiat 500, was startled by a firework as he drove along the tight dead end street. He is then said to have swerved and a hit a Toyota Aigo, a Ford Transit van and a Fiat Punto before uprooting a telegraph pole and colliding with the wall of an adjacent garden.

The cars had to be recovered by police.
