Crews at Ilkeston Fire Station swapped firefighting for car washing in the name of charity on Saturday.
Members of the station’s watches mucked in and washed cars and vans in exchange for donations made to the Fire Fighters Charity.
Their efforts raised more than £500 for the cause which supports working firefighters, those injured on the job and the families of crew members killed on call outs.
Dave Stevenson, red watch manager, said: “We were pleased with what we raised.
“There wasn’t quite as many cars as we’d hoped for but there was a steady flow and enough to keep us busy.”
More events are planned at other stations.
