Firefighters called out to suspected arson attack

Firefighters were called out to three fires on open ground over the weekend around Alfreton and mid Derbyshire including a suspected arson attack.

Crews found rubbish on fire on waste land at Corn Close, South Normanton, about 6.40pm, on Saturday, May 14, which was out on arrival.

But they were also called out to a park bench which was on fire on Shaw Street, at Riddings, about 8.40pm, on Saturday, May 14.

This fire was made safe by 9pm and the fire service confirmed that the incident is believed to have been a case of suspected arson.

Crews also extinguished a bin fire on Mill Stone Lane, Pentrich, which was found about 1.40am, on Sunday, May 15, in a layby, near the B6016.
