Amber Valley residents are being called upon to have their final say on the borough council’s Core Strategy which will form part one of a new Local Plan.

The document, together with a Site Allocations and Development Management Policies Development Plan Document (DPD) will ultimately replace the current Local Plan produced in 2006, and will act as a blueprint for where future large scale housing and industrial developments can take place in the area.

The council consulted on the draft Core Strategy between June and August this year.

Comments received from partners, stakeholders and local residents on the draft and other previous consultations have been assessed, including recommendations made by the previous sustainability appraisal.

These comments and recommendations together with other updated information have been used to make amendments to the draft Core Strategy and produce the what the authority is calling the ‘pre-submission’ Core Strategy.

Community planning manager Rob Thorley states in a letter sent to residents: “The council now considers that the Core Strategy is ready to be submitted to the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government for independent examination by a Planning Inspector.”

He goes on to say that the purpose of the examination at is to consider if the Core Strategy is, legally compliant and sound.

The publication stage is the last opportunity to make comments on the Core Strategy, but as this is now a formal stage immediately prior to the examination process, your views should relate to legal compliance and soundness.

This means views should relate to whether it has been prepared in accordance with statute and regulations and that its content is ‘positively prepared, justified, effective and consistent with national planning policy’.

Representations should be made on the standard representations form and returned to the address below, no later than 4.30pm on Friday 29th November 2013. The use of the standard representation form is strongly recommended as this will ensure that comments are related to matters relevant to the subsequent examination by a Planning Inspector.
