TWO fires broke out on the same South Normanton street over the weekend.

Firefighters from Alfreton and Ashfield were called to a fire in the Derbyshire Hotel, on Carter Lane East, on Friday, at 6pm.

Smoke was coming from light fittings and crews discovered there was a fire in an extraction unit. An electrician isolated the power and crews used a ‘positive pressure pump’ to ventilate the building. Firefighters left the scene at 6.30pm.

A crew from Alfreton was later called back to Carter Lane East, at 10.45pm on Sunday night, after a fire broke out in the kitchen of a house. Two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus fought the flame. One person was treated for smoke inhalation.

The property was ventilated and smoke alarms were fitted. The crew left the scene at 11.30pm.

Alfreton were called back to South Normanton in the early hours of Sunday morning to tackle a car fire on Woodfield Road.

Police arrested a 15-year-old boy for driving offences and criminal damage after a lamp-post was knocked down just after 4am.

A fire had been started in a car and a hedge was damaged.
