Farm fire’s vehicle thefts

POLICE officers investigating the fire at a farm on Openwood Road, Openwoodgate, last Tuesday have revealed that the house was burgled before the fire started.

Two cars, a Lexus and an Audi were stolen from the integral garage of the house and JCB and a ride-on mower were also taken. A witness saw the JCB turn left onto Over Lane.

Police were called to Rutland Cottage Inn on Heanor Road, in Ilkeston, on Wednesday, February 29, after a JCB Site Master was found in the car park. Enquiries confirmed that the JCB was the stolen vehicle.

A joint investigation between the police and fire service is continuing to determine the cause of the fire.

Anyone with information about the fire is asked to contact police on 101.
