The family of a young woman killed in a landslide in Dorset have thanked well wishers for their support during their ordeal.

Speaking outside her home in Toton, Nottinghamshire, on Friday, Vicki Butler, the sister of Charlotte Blackman’s childhood sweetheart’ Matthew Carnell, read out a statement on behalf of the grieving family.

Matthew and Charlotte had been together for six years, having met at Aldercar Community and Language College while studying there.

Matthew’s sister Vicki, 38, said: “The tragic events of last week have changed our lives completely.

“What had been an idyllic, enjoyable family holiday very quickly turned into a living nightmare that will be etched in our minds forever.

“We would like to take this opportunity to thank all those involved in the search for Charlotte, and the management and staff at Freshwater Holiday Park.”

Vicki, accompanied by her brother David Carnell, Told the News it was the family’s first time trip to the holiday park in Burton Bradstock when tragedy struck.

Charlotte’s life was snatched as she walked past 60ft high loose cliffs that fell suddenly. She had just received a first class degree in education studies at the University of Derby and had a promising career in teaching ahead of her.

Vicki continued to read: “Charlotte was an inspirational, beautiful young lady, whose love and passion for life touched many.”
