RIPLEY Running Club’s Simon English put in a great performance to finish the infamous Double or Quits ten-mile race in a time of 75 minutes and 50 seconds.

Wayne Yearwood and Ryan Ball also completed the event which takes place around Shipley Park and is a multi-terrain five or ten-mile race, one lap or two!

A few Ripley runners took part in the Bradbourne Fell near Ashbourne which also features a water crossing.

Four of Ripley’s finest took part in a field of 85 competitiors with Johnny Bryan first home for the club in 41.45. Carl Hopkinson was not far behind in 46.57. Ripley lady, Cathy Cresswell put in an excellent performance finishing in 50.02 and Bill Powis finished in 54.24.

At the other side of the county, five Ripley runners put in an excellent performance at the Brampton Brewery Spire ten-mile which had 271 runners around the beautiful sites of Old Brampton, Ashgate and Cutthorpe.

This is a relatively hilly course which sees runners climbing for the first 4.5-miles. It flattens off for a couple of miles before descending back to the finish.

It was a sunny day but very windy so runners had their work cut out. Dean Taylor put in a fine finish coming 16th in an excellent time of 1 hour and five minutes.

Hot on his heels was Lucy Holmes finishing 3rd lady in 1hour and 6 minutes. Vinny Harlin was next in 1:11, then Esther Broughton in 1:22 and finally Michael Corrigan in 161st place in a brilliant time of 1:25.

Meanwhile to show how committed the Ripley Team are, Vinny Harlin took part in the Reepham 10k in Norfolk during his holiday there.

A 10km route saw just over half on country road and the remainder on a disused railway track. Vinny finished in a respectable 46th place from 303 competitors in 42 minutes and 18 seconds.

In the Belper Rugby Rover, over 300 runners took part in an 18.6-mile race over gruelling hills, stony paths and an ascent of 2000feet.

Once people had struggled through that part of the race, they had to contend with the Shining Cliff Wood which is equally as uneven and stony. The runners already exhausted by this time still had six miles to go!

Ripley RC had 19 runners take part with Matt Jones first back for the club in an outstanding time of two hours 24 minutes for a 26th place finish.

First lady back for Ripley and fourth lady overall was Lucy Holmes beating her own personal best in a time of 2 hours 29 minutes.

Wayne Smithurst gained 44th place in a great time of 2 hours 31 mins. A debut for Richard Phillis on this race put him in 65th place in 2 hours 38 mins and Mark Tomlinson was 72nd in a time of 2 hours 40 mins.

Other Ripley runners included: J Bateman 93rd (2.46), Caroline Moss 98th (2.48), D Taylor 103rd (2.49), W Yearwood 106th (2.50), K Tietz 133rd (2.58), C. Hopkinson 144th (3.01), C Creswell 218th (3.21), P Shaw 233rd (3.26), A. Cook 234th (3.26) M.Williams 237th (3.28) V. Leach 274th(3.46), C. Duffin 274th(3.46), 294th and R. Swift (3.56). Rob Swift put in a fantastic run this year considering he broke his foot late last year and it looked unlikely he’d start running again. First race for him this year and an outstanding effort
