DETECTIVES are investigating a number of allegations of electoral malpractice following the Amber Valley Borough Council elections.
There are now seven allegations in total across Derbyshire, one in the City of Derby, one in Erewash, one in Bolsover and the remaining four are all in Amber Valley.
One of the allegations relates to the distribution of false statements about nominated candidates.
The other allegations relate to campaigning breaches where the printer and promoters details were not shown on campaign literature.
Fraud investigators from the Economic Crime Unit will now begin enquiries to gather all available evidence prior to interviewing those suspected of involvement. Leader of the council, Stuart Bradford said the news has come as a ‘concern’.
“Given that it was a good turn out for the Amber Valley elections, of course it is of concern,” he added, “We certainly would not want these allegations to stop people from voting in subsequent elections.”
