Top teachers, attentive pupils, and a spot of pre-exam yoga are the reason behind Smalley Richardson Endowed’s recent league table success.
That is according to head teacher Matthew Crawford, who is celebrating this week after the school’s SATs results ranked in the top ten in Derbyshire in the recently published tables.
One hundred per cent of year six pupils attained at least grade four standard in English and maths, with 80 per cent of them reaching level grades - ranking Richardson Endowed second in the county for the percentage of pupils with ‘high achieving’ grades.
Mr Crawford praised the hard work of staff as well as specialist maths and English teachers for the success - adding that relaxing yoga sessions conducted with pupils before exams helped them to achieve.
He said: “I think that’s just one part of it - they went into the exams very calm and relaxed and in a positive mind set. The other part of it is outstanding teaching.
Mr Crawford, who took over as head of the school in September 2011, hired Nottingham company Yoga Beamz for the sessions.
The school received a ‘good’ Ofsted report in July.
