A mobile ‘app’ centred taster day is aiming to attract students to a new studio school set to launch in Heanor next year.
The event at the Joseph Wright Centre in Derby on Saturday, November 23, will focus on designing the phone and tablet applications – one of the courses on offer in the modern curriculum.
It is set to be the first of many taster days on a creative and computer related skills aimed at tempting teens to take a place at the school, to be based at Derby College’s Mundy Street campus, held over the coming months.
Derby College principal Mandie Strevino, said: “ (Research shows that) 1.5 million people are already employed in the UK’s IT and telecommunications industries – which grows every year.
“This changing employment landscape requires a new and innovative approach to education to ensure that young people have the employable skills to succeed in the workplace.”
Applications for the digital studio college are now being taken online at www.digitalstudiocollege.co.uk where information about the events will also be updated.
The college is set to open in September 2014.
