PUPILS are ‘in awe’ of the new £2 million sports hall opened at Aldercar Community and Language College according to the headteacher.

The facilities opened at the start of term replace an outdated 1950s gymnasium.

Headteacher of 17 years, Tony Wilson, says the new multi-purpose sports hall and fitness suite have been welcomed by pupils at the Langley Mill school in Daltons Close.

He said: “They are absolutely delighted by the facilities.

“The year eights and nines experienced the old facilities for two years – their awe on the new facilities was incredible.”

Sports co-ordinator at the school Tom Nelson said the sports hall, funded by Derbyshire County Council and the school, will be “massively beneficial” to the wellbeing of pupils. The old gymnasium has also undergone a £12,000 conversion into a new drama block as part of the improvements
