Schools set to close as teachers go on strike

PRIMARY and secondary schools in the Ripley and Heanor area are set to be affected by a strike over pensions.

Teachers and support staff across Derbyshire are set to walk out on Wednesday, November 30, in opposition to changes to the pensions system.

John Holmes, who is secretary of the Derbyshire branch of the National Union of Teachers (NUT), said he expected most of the schools in the county to be involved.

Heanor Gate Science College will be closed to all pupils for the day as a large number of its teachers will be on strike, said headteacher Rob Howard this week.

Also in Heanor, Mundy C of E Junior School will be closed to all pupils for the day.
