EVERY child attending a Langley Mill or Aldercar primary school is to receive a special commemorative Jubilee mug to celebrate the Queen’s 60th year on the throne.
Langley Mill and Aldercar Parish Council is to hand out more than 600 of the mugs to youngsters on Friday, June 1, as part of a series of events being planned in the village for the national celebration.
Council clerk Sheena Trower said: “It’s a really nice gesture - it’s a commemorative reference for them to remember this great occasion. It’s amazing, when you speak to some people they still have the Coronation coaches from the 1950s.
“Hopefully some of our children will do the same with these.”
The parish council is also organising a Jubilee walk around the village, taking in some of its historical features, on Wednesday, June 6.
The walk is one-and-a-half miles long and anyone interested should meet at Queen Street Recreation Ground at 10am.
